Meditation
I am studying and practising meditation as taught by Maarten Vermaase based on the Buddhist Mahamudra Tradition. I have also studied MBCT (Mindfulness Based Cognitve Therapy) course with Professor Mark Williams.
I offer meditation as part of the yoga class. You will be instructed to come to sit in meditation practice by developing skills of concentration and focus. This is training the mind to attend to a focal point such as the breath, bodily sensations or chanting. In meditation we bring attention back, time and time again, to the intended focus. We learn to recognise when the mind has drifted off and followed a thought; then we practise bringing a sense of wonder and appreciation to the mind, as we gently but firmly bring attention back. Then we gradually relax the focus, whilst remaining mindful. You will be given the opportunity to experience the mind coming to rest and then to use this as the starting point of your meditation practice.
When the energy of mindfulness is present, transformation takes place….. understanding, love, peace and stability are possible. God is within.
